The city of Dibba Al-Hisn witnessed the opening of the second edition of the Dibba Al-Hisn Sports and Cultural Festival yesterday evening, amidst a large official and public presence that reflects the importance of the event and its growing position in the city’s sports and cultural scene.

The opening ceremony was held in the heritage village, in the presence of a group of prominent figures, led by His Excellency Ahmed Abdullah bin Yarouf Al Naqbi, Chairman of the Dibba Al-Hisn Municipal Council, His Excellency Adel Alwan Al Naqbi, Director of the Amiri Diwan, His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Mutawa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Dibba Al-Hisn Sports and Cultural Club, and His Excellency Mohammed Abdullah Al-Taraban Al-Hamoudi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Dibba Al-Hisn Football Company, in addition to members of the Advisory Council and heads and directors of government departments and bodies in the city.

The ceremony began with the playing of the UAE national anthem, marking the launch of the festival, followed by a speech by Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Al Mutawa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dibba Al Hisn Sports and Cultural Club and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Events, in which he stressed that the festival comes in translation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who pays great attention to culture and sports, and is keen to support various events that contribute to enhancing the spirit of the community and consolidating sports and cultural values.

He also pointed out that the festival reflects the fruit of the partnership between Dibba Al Hisn Sports and Cultural Club and Dibba Al Hisn Football Company, as it came as a result of fruitful cooperation and a collective spirit that seeks to advance the sports and cultural fields in the city. He concluded his speech by extending thanks and appreciation to the loyal fans of the club, as well as to all the local institutions and departments that provided their unlimited support to make this event a success.

The first day of the festival witnessed a variety of events that attracted the audience in a distinctive festive atmosphere, as the Al Washahat Al Harbiah Band presented a distinctive heritage show, followed by a sports drum show that added a distinctive rhythmic touch to the event. The Sports Personality of the Year was also honored, as this title was given to His Excellency Abdullah Ali bin Yarouf Al Naqbi, who held many sports and governmental positions, including the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dibba Al Hisn Sports Club, and left his mark in the sports field with his leadership spirit and high morals, to be a role model in the city.

Continuing the atmosphere of honor, the winners of the Sports Families Award were announced, as three prominent sports families won, namely the family of Mr. Sultan Tamim Al Riyami, the family of Mr. Abdullah Zaid Badr Al Dhahouri, and the family of Mr. Salem Ali Al Khalidi, in appreciation of their role in supporting sports and active participation in sports events.

After the honors, the entertainment and sports activities resumed, where a group of female students presented a sports show that was well received by the audience, followed by the organization of the interactive “Kahoot” competition, which encouraged the participants to interact and compete in an exciting atmosphere. The sports evening also witnessed many entertainment competitions and daily draws, which added a distinctive character to the events, amidst a large audience keen to follow this special event in the heritage village.

The festival activities continue, as various sports competitions are scheduled to be held, in addition to rhythmic gymnastics shows, and performances by the Al-Awaid War Band, in addition to many diverse competitions that promise the audience more fun and excitement within the framework of this cultural sports festival, which has become a prominent mark in the annual events agenda of the city of Dibba Al-Hisn.
